Information security instructor Steve Hailey is the lead author on a book titled "Computer Forensics Core Competencies-Practical Skills for the Forensic Examiner," due out from Apress (www.apress.com) in fall 2009. The book will be about 650 pages and include DVD instructional videos and case examples.
Hailey also teaches for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Cyberterrorism Defense Initiative.
Information Security instructor Mike Andrews is co-author of the book, which will also feature contributions from industry experts including, Dave Kleiman, David Dunn, David Matthews, David Stenhouse, Ernie Hayden, Ivan Orton, Michael Finnie, and Reginald Chapman.
Edmonds College's information security classes continue to garner recognition in the industry. Most recently, the CyberSecurity Forensic Analyst (CSFA) certification offered through Edmonds College for digital forensics students was recognized by the (ISC) — the organization that developed and sponsors the CISSP certification.
The CSFA is now on the (ISC) approved list for a one year experience waiver towards the CISSP, Certified Information Systems Security Professional.
Students at Edmonds College who have completed Computer Information Systems classes 201, 272 and 273 have the opportunity to test for CyberSecurity Forensic Analyst certification.
The CFSA is an industry-recognized certification for digital forensics examiners which was recently acknowledged by the American Bar Association as a nationally recognized indicator of competence, knowledge, and skill in the field. Computer forensics experts developed the certification test. Candidates complete a computer forensic case and submit an analysis of their findings to obtain the certification.
Digital forensics specialists may serve as experts in legal cases involving digital evidence. Edmonds CC's Information Security, Network Security, and Digital Forensics classes provide hands-on exercises focusing on real world case examples.
