Women’s conference with Pepper Schwartz focuses on health

Pepper Schwartz, professor of sociology at the University of Washington, presents "Keeping Your Balance: Holding on to What’s Important in Challenging Times" at the women's conference April 10.

Learn about women’s health and wellness and the resources available to women in our community at a Women’s Conference, noon-5:30 p.m., Fri., April 10 at Edmonds College. The cost is $60 and includes lunch. Find registration information at www.edmonds.edu/equity.

The college’s fourth annual Women’s Conference this year focuses on Wellness: Mind, Body & Spirit. Workshops will address homeopathy, hormonal changes, yoga and ayurveda, breast care, eating for anti-inflammation, and creative writing for healing.

The keynote speaker will be Pepper Schwartz, professor of sociology at the University of Washington and bestselling author of "Prime: Adventures and Advice on Sex, Love, and the Sensual Years."

Schwartz earned her doctorate in sociology at Yale. Her presentation will be on “Keeping Your Balance: Holding on to What’s Important in Challenging Times.” She will sign books after her address and at a reception following the conference.

Edmonds CC;s Women’s Studies instructor Christine Greenway will also present a workshop on body image at the conference. A resource fair of community agencies will also introduce participants to local services for women.

A Heart and Grace reception, honoring local artist Mary Ann Peters, follows the conference 5-7:30 p.m. in the art gallery on the third floor of Lynnwood Hall. It's free and open to the public
