Children may eat free at the Center for Families childcare

03/12/2009
Nutritious free or reduced rate meals and snacks will now be available to children from low-income homes enrolled in childcare at Edmonds College’s Center for Families Childcare.

The Center for Families has joined the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) administered by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI). Meals will be made available to children at no separate charge without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability.

The federal CACFP plays a vital role in improving the quality of childcare for children and elderly adults by making care more affordable for many low-income families. Through CACFP, 2.9 million children and 86,000 adults nationwide receive nutritious meals and snacks each day as part of their day care.

The Center for Families Childcare is accepting applications for spring quarter enrollment. For more information, call the Center for Families at 425.640.1247 or email childcare@edmonds.edu. Applications and information about hours and rates are online at www.edmonds.edu/childcare or at the center, 20400 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood.

Teachers at the Center for Families support families and create opportunities for children to be eager learners, creative thinkers, confident problem solvers and compassionate people. Childcare at the Center for Families is licensed by the Washington State Department of Early Learning.
