English instructor publishes essay in feminist anthology

Edmonds College English instructor Marcia Woodard's essay "The Gymnastics Group," has been published in the anthology My Life at the Gym: Feminist Perspectives on Community Through the Body (2009, SUNY Press). The book includes essays, poems, and personal narratives about women’s experiences with exercise. Woodard's essay is a humorous memoir that mentions Seattle landmarks such as Woodland Park and Green Lake.

Woodard teaches writing at Edmonds and Everett community colleges and the annual Edmonds Write on the Sound conference. She has an MFA from the University of Washington and was the nonfiction editor at the Seattle Review from 2002-2006. A columnist for the American Kennel Club Gazette magazine since 2004, her column “Law Enforcement Incident report” was nominated for a 2008 Dog Writers Association of America Award.

Woodard is almost finished with her book manuscript, Collected Kona, which features her dog breed columns. Other recent publications include Clamor, Kalliope, B-13, Crosscurrents, www.womenwriters.net, and 13th Moon.
