12/08/2010
Edmonds College offers a new manufacturing class, Intro to Metrology, Materials Science Technology 120, this winter. Winter classes start Jan. 3. Quality Assurance Tools, Materials Science Technology 130, will be offered in spring. Quality control skills can help advance workers employed in basic manufacturing.
To meet Washington state’s need for skilled workers in the manufacturing industry, Edmonds College offers a number of classes, certificates, and degrees in its materials science technology program. The classes teach skills that can be applied in entry-level jobs and serve as the foundation to add on skills with further study.
New in 2010 are two classes that teach skills in quality control. Introduction to Metrology, Materials Science Technology 120, will be offered this winter and Quality Assurance Tools, Materials Science Technology 130, will be offered in spring. Quality control skills can help advance workers employed in basic manufacturing.
Instructor Ross Monroe said the college’s manufacturing program focuses on providing skills, such as quality control, that meet industry standards. At the same time, students have options to pursue further education if they decide to advance their careers in manufacturing or engineering technology.
The winter Introduction to Metrology class can be taken on its own or as part of a two-year Manufacturing and Materials Technology degree. Students also have the option of earning an Associate of Applied Science-Transfer degree, which counts as two years toward a bachelor’s degree at Western Washington University, Oregon Institute of Technology, or Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Other key engineering, science, and technology classes offered as part of the college’s manufacturing degree include Composites Manufacturing, MST 260; Applied Statistics, MST 210; and Polymer Technology, MST 180.
