Cuts to state food stamps may affect Edmonds CC students

Due to budget cuts, the Washington state food program which provided food benefits for low income legal immigrants and their families has ended. Low income U.S. citizens and their families will continue to get federal food benefits.
This may affect Edmonds College students who are legal, permanent residents, but not U.S. citizens. The Basic Food Employment Training (BFET) program at Edmonds College assists students receiving food stamps through DSHS, by providing funding and case management support so low income students can achieve their college and career goals.
Emergency food assistance resources in the community:
- 2-1-1 online resources — Click on blue circle "start a search", and search by keyword “food” (yields 111 results in Snohomish County) or “emergency food” (yields 46 results); please note: entering keyword “food banks” yielded the least number of results (2).
- Lynnwood food bank Wednesdays 2:30-6:30 p.m.; 5320 176th St. SW. Click on “how to receive help” (must bring ID and live in Lynnwood or South Snohomish County. Will receive three days of food per household).
