Bill Bettencourt receives Fulbright Scholar teaching grant

06/22/2011
International Business instructor Bill Bettencourt has received a Fulbright Scholar teaching grant. He will teach fall quarter at the Far Eastern State Transport University in Khabarovsk, Russia.

Bettencourt has taught at the university before, more than 10 years ago, when he spent three weeks at the university as part of the Citizens Democracy Core.

“I’m looking forward to seeing how Russia has changed in the past 10 years," he said. He will attend an orientation with other Fulbright teaching scholars in July in Washington, D.C.

Bettencourt holds a master’s degree from the American Graduate School of International Management. In 2008, he self-published a novel, "Seagulls Astray" (Maigo no Kamome)  (2008, Trafford). Set in the red-hot business climate of 1970s Tokyo, the book tells the story of two university students, a Californian at loose ends in Japan and a Tokyo coed tightly surrounded by family, as they navigate the path from school to career.
