Edmonds College instructors elected to national digital forensics board

Edmonds College instructors Steven Hailey and Mike Andrew, both Certified Data Recovery Practitioners, have been elected to top positions by the Digital Forensic Certification Board (DFCB), which is funded partly by the National Institute of Justice and is now a certification group of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators.
Hailey is the organization’s new vice president, while Andrew is secretary. Those on the board are nationally recognized computer forensics professionals who have decades of experience serving in the digital forensics community.
Hailey and Andrew are both recognized subject-matter experts in cyberterrorism and have taught classes for the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition, they have trained Department of Defense personnel tasked with analysis of digital evidence and intelligence in the Mideast. Both currently are adjunct instructors for Texas A&M University and also serve as officers of the Washington State High Technology Crime Investigation Association.
The DFCB offers two certifications: the Digital Forensic Certified Practitioner and the Digital Forensics Certified Associate. Edmonds CC’s Information Security and Digital Forensics programs help students prepare for those certifications. The college also offers an Information Security and Digital Forensics Associate of Technical Arts degree as well as certificates in digital forensics and network security.
Hailey will present a Digital Forensic Fundamentals seminar 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Sat., March 16, in Meadowdale Hall 124, Edmonds College, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. The seminar is free and open to the public. Participants can learn about Information Security and Digital Forensics careers, tour the college's clean room, and learn how data is recovered from hard drives that have been in floods and fires, or purposefully rendered inoperable.
In addition, Hailey will discuss a case of credit card fraud and identity theft he worked on for law enforcement.
