Edmonds CC names Shawna Juarez new softball coach

LYNNWOOD, Wash. — Edmonds College on Tuesday announced the hiring of Shawna Juarez as head coach of its softball team.
“I am extremely excited to be welcomed to the Triton family,” said Juarez. “I have a strong desire and drive to make a positive impact on this program and lead it in the direction of several upcoming successful years.”
Juarez’s experience includes playing softball at community college and university levels and coaching high school and select teams.
She competed in multiple sports at Othello (Wash.) High School and during two seasons of softball and basketball in the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges (NWAACC) at Wenatchee Valley College, where she earned an associate degree. She then transferred to Northwest Nazarene University, playing softball for two more years and graduating with a bachelor’s in social work.
Following college, Juarez began her coaching career for the Washington LadyHawks 18U Gold Team in Seattle and for the Washington Explosion 18U in Connell, Wash. She had stops as an assistant coach at Vallivue High School in Caldwell, Idaho, and as a head coach at Borah High School in Boise.
Her most recent post was as head coach at Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho, where she led her team to its first district title.
“I will be a strong positive mentor and leader to the young individuals I will coach,” said Juarez. “I am thrilled to impact their lives, while teaching them about the wonderful game of softball. I am thankful for this opportunity I have been given, and cannot wait to work with the Triton family to build a strong program.”
Edmonds CC softball competes in the NWAACC North Division. The Tritons have won six division titles and appeared in 10 NWAACC Championships, winning the crown in 1980. The last championship tournament appearance for Edmonds CC came in 2008.
“Softball has seen some lean years recently, but with the new on-campus turf facility and two solid recruiting classes from former coach Linsi Moy, Edmonds softball is headed in the right direction,” said athletic director Jorge de la Torre.
“I believe Edmonds CC has the best coaching staff in the NWAACC. Coach Juarez is a perfect fit for what we want to accomplish here — a great experience for our student-athletes and to have all seven teams qualify for their respective championships.”
