Edmonds CC helps to prepare Northshore and Issaquah school district students for careers in composites and materials science

Edmonds College’s Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center is partnering with the Northshore School District Composites Engineering and Manufacturing program to provide preparatory instruction and practice for careers in composites and materials science engineering, manufacturing, and repair.
Sixteen Composites Engineering and Manufacturing students representing the Northshore School District and Issaquah School District took the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center Core Certification test in May. All of the students passed the exam while more than 80 percent of those passed with a score of 94 percent or better.
The program is part of the King County WANIC Skills Center program and students meet for three hours a day for the full year. This course is considered college level and is articulated with the Edmonds CC Materials Science program as well as the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center.
Students have the opportunity to earn college credit and industry certification in this high demand field and experience many site visits to local industries and post secondary programs including Boeing, K2 Sports, ElectroImpact, Washington Aerospace Training and Research, University of Washington Mechanical Engineering and Formula Motor Sports program, and Edmonds College.
Opened in 2010, the Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center is the educational resource for career pathways in the aerospace industry. Located at the Paine Field airport in Snohomish County, the center was built to create career opportunities and to serve the aerospace industry.
The Washington Aerospace Training and Research Center programs are delivered in five unique certificates of completion. The program begins with the Aerospace Manufacturing Core Skills Certificate and one Aerospace Specialty Program Certificate is required for successful completion of the program.
