Fourth annual Celebration of Food Festival at Lynnwood Convention Center May 17

Food Festival 2015Food Revolution Snohomish County, a movement aimed at encouraging growing, cooking, and eating real food, brings the Celebration of Food Festival to Lynnwood for the fourth straight year.

The festival is a free, family event where participants can taste, explore, and experience real food from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., May 17, at the Lynnwood Convention Center, 3711 196th St. SW, Lynnwood.

“In our fourth year, we are still running a very unique event,” said festival organizer Chris Hudyma. “We bring people together from Snohomish County and beyond and showcase delicious, local, wholesome food.”  

Highlights of the festival include:

  • educational presentations,
  • cooking demonstrations,
  • children’s story tent and book giveaway,
  • hands-on kids’ cooking and kitchen skills station, and
  • vendors consisting of local farms and businesses.

The event will include free food samples, food demonstrations for children and adults, displays, and items for purchase.

“Our intent is to foster a community that is passionate about real food,” said Hudyma. “It’s a journey for people to rediscover that they can grow and cook their own food and that it can taste so much better than the processed food we so often eat in this country.”

Bastyr Center for Natural Health and WSU Snohomish County Extension will host presentations on:

  • Eat the Spring (eating seasonally),
  • Food Allergies/Sensitivities,
  • One-Pot Anti-Inflammatory Meals and Making Herbal Gifts,
  • Seed Starting at Home,
  • Transplanting Garden Starts,
  • Gardening with Children, and
  • DIY Salad Boxes.

More than 30 booths, with products ranging from gelato to grains, and from coffee to chocolate, are confirmed for the event. They include: Café Ladro, Gelatoicious, Theo Chocolate, Whole Foods, SnoIsle Natural Food, Camano Island Mills, and Bubbas Salsa.

Farms throughout Snohomish County will be represented, including: Biringer Farm of Arlington, Shambala Farm of Camano Island, Mother Nature’s Organics of Lake Stevens, Skipley Farm of Snohomish, Bright Ide Acres of Snohomish, and Smith Brothers Farm of Kent.

Also represented are the farmer’s markets of Everett and Lynnwood.

The Celebration of Food Festival is sponsored by Central Market, City of Lynnwood, Edmonds CC and the college’s Campus Green Fund, Grow Northwest, PCC Natural Markets, Swedish Edmonds, Verdant Health Commission, Whole Foods Markets, and the Cedar Grove.
