Are you a licensed Washington State Department of Health professional? If so, you could be eligible for Edmonds Community College’s Chemical Dependency Professional (CDP) Alternative Training Program.

Edmonds CC is now offering a newly developed fast-track, 20-credit CDP program for eligible students.

“Given the shortage of addiction professionals nationwide, the CDP Alternative Training Program provides a way to bring more counselors into the field,” said Dr. Timothy Burdick, Edmonds CC Social and Human Services faculty. “As the regional leader for addiction studies in Washington state, Edmonds CC is uniquely positioned to offer this program along with our other degrees in social and human services.”

The program is designed for licensed professionals working as advanced nurse practitioners, psychologists, counselors, social workers, osteopathic physicians, osteopathic physician assistants, physicians, and physician assistants.

“Our college will now be able to expand beyond our existing associate-degree seeking students, and add into our classes graduate and post-graduate students entering the addiction treatment field,” Burdick said.

CDP courses include:

  • Introduction to Addiction Studies, 5 credits. Winter quarter, online or 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays.
  • Pharmacology/Psychoactive Substance, 5 credits. Winter quarter, online.
  • Addiction Counseling/Relapse Prevention, 5 credits. Winter quarter, 11:30 a.m.-1:20 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • Assessment/Case Management in Addiction, 5 credits. Spring quarter, online.
