A message from the president

01/17/18

At Edmonds Community College, we take great pride in our commitment to equity and inclusion. We work diligently to provide a safe and healthy environment for our community of students and employees to grow and learn, together.

Christina Castorena

Edmonds CC Interim President Christina Castorena

During this time of heightened attention on matters of national and global politics and race, I want to reassure you that you are welcome here.

I affirm our college’s commitment to being a welcoming learning and working environment where individuals regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, gender expression, disability, sexual orientation, age, or citizenship can thrive and are embraced. I echo and applaud the recent sentiments expressed by our Vice President of International Education, David Cordell:

“I believe you all share - that every person and every culture plays an important part in the human experience and journey, and that we gain the most when we learn from one another and break down barriers between us.”

In our own higher education community, the recent news of the untimely death of Washington State University athlete Tyler Hilinski, who ended his own life Tuesday, has left me deeply saddened. Our thoughts and hearts go out to Tyler’s family and the WSU community.

Edmonds CC offers support and resources for those in need. If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis, here are some resources to help:

  • Our Counseling and Resource Center is available to support Edmonds CC students. Please feel free to direct students to the Center in Mountlake Terrace Hall, Room 145. Center staff can be reached by phone at 425.640.1358.

  • Employees are encouraged to use the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and may contact the Human Resources office for additional information or call EAP to set up a confidential appointment at 1.800.648.5834.
