Edmonds Community College’s Convergence Writers Series is featuring Civic Poet Claudia Castro-Luna for a reading on Thurs., Feb. 18 at 12:30 p.m. in the college’s Black Box Theatre on campus, 20310 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. It is free and open to the public.

Castro-Luna is newly appointed as Seattle’s Civic Poet, the recipient of a King County 4Culture grant, and a Jack Straw Fellow.

According to Castro-Luna, she writes because the flesh remembers even when the mind forgets and moving the hand across a page is a measure of resistance.

Her poems have appeared in publications such as "Riverbabble" and the "Taos Journal of Poetry and Art and City Arts" among others.

Born in El Salvador, Castro-Luna came to the U.S. in 1981. She is working on a memoir about her experience escaping the Salvadoran Civil War; an excerpt of it appears in the 2014 Jack Straw Writers Anthology.

She has a Master of Arts in Urban Planning and a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from Mills College, and a teaching certificate.

Living in English and Spanish, Castro-Luna writes and teaches in Seattle where she gardens and keeps chickens with her husband and their three children.

Reserve your free ticket at the Black Box Theater. Get directions to the college.
