Edmonds CC presents its second annual "Tunnel of Intersections" exhibit

Edmonds Community College presents "Tunnel of Intersections" on May 4, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and May 5, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., at the Edmonds CC campus in Woodway Hall, Room 202, 20000 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. The event is free and open to the public.

The exhibit features an interactive experience that will examine an array of intersections our community encounters on a daily basis.

In the "Tunnel of Intersections," participants walk through several different interactive exhibits designed to express the oppression of marginalized groups that too often are invisible members of our community.

In its second year, the exhibit features up to eight vignettes. Some of them are an extension of a theme from last year, but viewed from a different lens. Others introduce new intersection issues currently reflecting the college’s diverse community.

Each of the vignettes in the "Tunnel of Intersections" is the exclusive creative brainchild of Edmonds CC campus groups or individuals.

This exhibit is fashioned after the nationally-recognized “Tunnel of Oppression,” which was first created as a campus grassroots diversity program at Western Illinois University, and can now be found at many colleges and universities around the nation.

Locally, Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma has presented its version of this exhibit for several years now. Inspiration from the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles was used as a template for the first “Tunnel of Oppression.”

Organizers of the exhibit hope it will continue to spark healthy and vigorous discussion among participants and lead to a deeper understanding and appreciation of the intersections that are an integral part of our community members’ lives.
