Board of Trustees Issues DEI Statement
12/15/23
We, the Board of Trustees of Edmonds College, stand together with President Dr. Amit B. Singh in reaffirming our unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
We are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where all students, faculty, staff, and visitors feel valued, respected, and safe.
We recognize that the wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East have caused significant anxiety and distress for many members of our communities, and are especially troubling for those with ties to the regions.
As an institution of higher education, Edmonds College recognizes freedom of speech and ideas as a First Amendment right; however, we will not condone speech that incites hate, violence, discrimination, and prejudice towards others.
Now more than ever, it is crucial for us to come together, to hold ourselves to our values, and support one another through these crises.
The Board of Trustees and the leadership of Edmonds College embrace our stated values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and respect, and are guided by the following principles:
- We celebrate the individuality and diversity of our students and colleagues, as well as the diversity of our college, community, nation, and world.
- We expect equity and mutual respect.
In reaffirming these principles, we stand united in our commitment to cultivate a campus environment that not only acknowledges our differences but cherishes and celebrates them. Together, as a community, we will navigate these challenges with empathy, understanding, and a collective dedication to the values that define us.
