Accelerate Your English Journey at Edmonds College
The new English Language Institute at Edmonds College (ELI) will offer three levels of English language courses designed for academic and professional preparation. Classes will integrate English language skills like Grammar, Reading, and Writing and upper level students will have the opportunity to take a College and Career success course. Our goal is to make sure that our students have a positive learning experience!
After completing the ELI program, students are eligible to start the high school or college programs at Edmonds College.
Program Structure
- 4 levels: Low Beginner, High Beginner, Low Intermediate, and High Intermediate
- Small class size
- 18 credits/hours of classes per week. This is the credit requirement to meet F-1 regulations for language study program students.
- After 3 months, students may progress to the next level or jump levels based on their individual performance.
Weekly Schedule
- 10 hours of Integrated Skills Course (Reading, Writing, Grammar)
- 5 hours of Speaking and Listening Course
- 3 hours of English Skills Support Course (beginner levels only) or of College and Career Success Course (advanced levels only)

These score ranges are based on the fact that Michigan Language Assessment conducted a standard-setting project to link Form D of the Michigan-EPT scores to the CEFR levels as shown in the table below. If you are using forms other than Form D, use the score conversion table. Please see Michigan-EPT Format for test format, test scoring, and CEFR info. ELI Faculty
Janet Joseph (right) currently teaches the Beginner level students. She comes to Edmonds with over 14 years of experience as an English Professor at a leading education institution in South India. She enjoys teaching foundational and practical approaches to English language learning. Katie DeVisser (left) currently teaches the Intermediate level students. She comes to Edmonds with over 10 years of experience as an English Language instructor working at several intensive English Language Programs at Universities within the US. Her passion in English language learning lies with grammar and pronunciation.
