Course Level Objectives
- Demonstrate understanding of a specific topic related to English Prep: Reading, Writing, and Study Skills.
ENGLP 087: Reading and Writing College Prep Skills
Credits: 5.0College preparatory coursework including reading, vocabulary, college success skills, writing, and test preperation. Registration permitted first seven weeks (six in summer) as space is available. S/U grade option. Prerequisite(s): Placement by permission or test results.

- Demonstrate an increase in the number of words in reading, writing, and speaking vocabulary.
- Apply reading strategies to improve comprehension.
- Demonstrate improvement in structure, grammar, and punctuation in expository writing.
- Prepare for tests.
- Navigate online course delivery system to access necessary class components.
- Identify campus resources to develop personal academic and career goals.
- Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions.

Credits: 5.0Improves reading comprehension, writing, and discussion skills for academic success and general educational needs. Covers summarizing and paragraph writing that reflects a basic command of English grammar and sentence skills. S/U grade option. Prerequisite(s): Placement by permit ortest results.
Course Level Objectives
- Summarize the claims, concepts, and evidence of a text.
- Cite specific evidence to support accurate inferences drawn from a range of texts, including nonfiction, literary, quantitative, and visual texts.
- Analyze the structure of texts, including how major patterns of organization are used to achieve an author's purpose.
- Plan, develop, revise, and edit summary and response paragraphs.
- With support, use technology to access class components, produce writing, and collaborate with others.
- Demonstrate a basic command of English grammar and sentence skills.
- Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions.
ENGLP 093: Reading and Essay Development
Credits: 5.0Focuses on the development of the full-length essay while improving students' reading, writing, sentence, and discussion skills. S/U grade option. Prerequisite(s): Placement by permit, test results, or completion of ENGLP 90 or PREP 90 with a minimum grade of 2.0.

- Summarize and respond to the claims, concepts, and evidence of a text.
- Support claims with logical reasons and relevant evidence.
- Analyze the structure of texts, including how specific words, sentences, and paragraphs relate to each other and the whole.
- Plan, develop, revise, and edit essays.
- Write well-developed and coherent essays in which the organization and style are appropriate to purpose and audience.
- Use technology to access class components, produce writing, and collaborate with others.
- Demonstrate an intermediate command of English grammar and sentence skills, with a particular focus on sentence boundaries and sentence types.
- Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions including peer reviews.
