General Education Development (GED)®

• A GED® is accepted as an equivalent to a high school diploma by most employers in Washington state and many other states.
• A GED® is accepted by most college admissions officers.
• Students who take courses to help them become ready for the GED® receive individual academic advising, access to college courses in English and math, and transitional support towards college level classes at Edmonds College.
• Earning a GED® demonstrates a level of learning that meets or exceeds the performance of the top two-thirds of U.S high school graduates.

You must be 16 or older to enroll, and students under 19 must provide a high school release.

For $25 per quarter, you can take as many GED classes as you want. GED® tests cost $36 per subject. Practice tests are $6.99 each.

It's our policy to ensure that everyone who needs to improve their basic skills can enroll in College and Career Prep and GED® programs.

If the $25 tuition fee presents a barrier to a student, a scholarship or waiver can be granted by requesting it from the College and Career Prep/GED advisor when enrolling for classes.

This is a quick and easy way to get started. Students on the enrollment list will be contacted shortly via phone or email to complete important college paperwork.

If you have questions or need help getting started, call 425.640.1593, email precollege@edmonds.edu, or chat with us on our website to get on the GED® enrollment list. Please leave your name, phone number, and email. We are also happy to offer a GED® virtual Zoom lobby, 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 - 3:00 p.m., Monday - Thursday. Drop in to get on the enrollment list. 

Students enrolled in classes to complete their GED® do not need to obtain a high school transcript.  If you think you may be interested in a high school diploma and want someone to evaluate the credits you have earned, please work on obtaining a transcript while waiting for staff to contact you. When you are contacted by Pre-College staff, we will provide further instructions on where your transcript can be sent for evaluation.

During your introductory phone call or email, you will schedule a one-on-one advising and registration appointment. At this time, your advisor will answer any questions you may have. You will also select courses that work with your life/work schedules and skill level.  After registering for your classes, you will pay your fee of $25.  Fee waivers are available if eligible.  Students who register early get the best selection of classes.

We also offer Zoom drop-in hours with our advisors, for prospective and current students to ask questions.

Each quarter, GED® students meet with their advisor to select classes for the next quarter until they have met their goal of completing the four GED® tests. Your advisor is also available to help you throughout the quarter with the process of applying for financial aid, meeting with a college or program advisor, and supporting you in taking the next steps on a path to a college degree or a new career.
