New Initiatives
New MESA Programs and Projects

AmeriCorps VISTA and the ACE project
Fall 2019
In early 2019, Edmonds CC MESA was awarded a grant through Washington Campus Compact for an AmeriCorps VISTA member. VISTA is a federal program focused on anti-poverty initiatives that places volunteers in communities around the United States. VISTA members help local organizations build structure and capacity. The MESA VISTA member will coordinate the Access, Community, Equity (ACE) Program, which focuses on building connections with partners and increasing student access to competitive component activities, such as internships, workshops, and conferences.

The Green Initiative
Fall 2019
Over the past year, MESA students have used over 2,100 cups and lids. To produce less waste, MESA wants to implement a Green Initiative, lead by students. Students will be providing feedback on how we can make MESA more environmentally friendly and MESA will implement the ideas. Some current ideas have been having more reusable cups and utensils in the MESA Student Center and getting a compost bin.

MESA Scholarships
Summer 2018
To remove the financial burden of receiving an education for students, MESA began awarding four types of scholarships: Tuition and Fees, Books and Supplies, Conference Fees, and University Application Fees. Check out the MESA Scholarships page for more information.

MESA Orientation & Holistic Academic Advising
Fall 2018
MESA implemented a new orientation using Canvas and a Holistic Academic Advising Model. Students complete modules each quarter that teaches them key skills to help them develop into competitive STEM transfer students. The MESA Orientation also address barriers students may face in their academic and career development, such as financial planning, food insecurity, discrimination, and impostor syndrome.

MESA Lending Library
Fall 2018
Purchasing textbooks and other class materials can be a barrier for some MESA students. Through the MESA Lending Library, students can reserve textbooks, calculators, and graduation gowns.
