Volunteer
If you love working with children, want to give back to your community, or are interested in a career in early childhood education, volunteering provides a rewarding experience for us and for you. Also, volunteering is one way that you help us meet our required 25% of non-federal share.
We have volunteer opportunities in classrooms, food services, facilities, administrative offices, and recruitment. Some of our volunteer opportunities include (but are not limited to):
- Volunteer in a classroom
- Read a book to a child or group of children
- Help supervise children on the playground
- Visit the classroom and share something about your cultural heritage or family history
- Teach the children about your favorite hobby or job
- Help collate the classroom newsletter
- Type and file
- Help prepare mailings and stuff envelopes
- Distribute Head Start Program flyers in the community
- Help with the planning and set-up of parent meetings
- Assist with food preparation and serving
- Participation on our Leadership Council
When you volunteer, you can expect:
- Challenges, discovery, and new learning
- Supervision, initial and ongoing task training, job skills and references
- To be treated with respect and recognized for the work you’ve done
- To undergo a fingerprinting and online criminal history background check if you are not an enrolled parent
We expect you:
- To maintain confidentiality and our professional behavior standards
- To complete required forms and records
- To get a Food Handler’s Permit (if you wish to help serve meals)
