Housing Justice Project – Legal Clinic

Thursday, May 30 | 4-6 p.m. | Woodway Hall 202

Have a housing problem? Free legal help is available!

Snohomish County Legal Services (SCLS) will provide free civil legal assistance to qualifying low-income Snohomish County residents, including those without immigration documents. At this legal clinic, SCLS attorneys will meet with you one-on-one for a brief meeting to answer your housing questions and offer advice on your housing issue. Paralegals may not provide legal services to the public, except as permitted by law.

The SCLS Housing Justice Project (HJP) provides a wide range of services which includes brief legal advice, extended services (drafting documents, negotiating, etc.), and representation in court for Unlawful Detainer Actions (eviction). Generally, the attorney will give guidance on common landlord-tenant related issues, such as repairs, harassment, eviction records, security deposit, damage disputes, and other housing issues. Depending on your situation, SCLS may be able to represent you in court. However, they do not file lawsuits on your behalf. In those instances, the attorney will explain the type of attorney you would benefit from consulting with and provide you with resources to call.

Please sign up for an appointment below – pre-registration is required.

To ensure you receive individualized attention, each 30-minute session is limited to one client. However, you may bring someone for support, such as a translator or caregiver. Translation services will be provided if you need a translator and do not have one.

Snohomish County Legal Services

Snohomish County Legal Services provides other free civil legal aid clinics in the areas of family law (divorce, custody, domestic violence), bankruptcy, estate planning for seniors, and general civil legal issues. They do not currently assist with immigration issues.
