Priority acceptance will be sent out by 12/6/24, regular acceptance by 12/13/24.
We admit students into the Computer Science - Bachelor of Science (CS-BS) program through a holistic application evaluation. Admission is determined by reviewing several factors: coursework completed, grade point average (GPA), application essay (more information below), and other experience.
Prior to the start of the CS-BS program, students must have completed the following:
- An introductory programming course series such as
- CS& 131, CS 132, and CS 133 or
- CS& 141, CS 142, and CS 143.
- Math& 141 and either Math& 142 or Math& 146
- ENGL& 101 and either ENGL& 102 or ENGL& 235.
- At least one natural science course with a lab component.
Students must earn a minimum cumulative 2.5 GPA and minimum grade point of 2.5 in all prerequisite courses.
*Note: Students can start taking the 100- and 200-level courses required for this program before being admitted. We encourage students with non-traditional learning experiences or credentials (military, industry, etc.) to contact us regarding admission and course placement.
All applicants must submit answers to all the application questions as part of the admissions process. Each response should be no longer than 500 words, so please plan accordingly.
- How has your past experience (work, academic, etc.) prepared you for this program?
- How does the Edmonds College Bachelor's in Computer Science program align with your long-term career goals?
- What unique qualities, skills, and experiences do you bring to the program and field of computer science?
Your application essay allows you to tell the application review committee about your past work, educational experience, career goals, and how they fit into the CS BS program. The application essay will also assess your commitment to participating in the program.
The review committee will evaluate your application essay based on the content of your written statement. To write a successful essay:
- Answer each essay prompt completely. Be sure to address each prompt using details and examples of your experiences.
- Before you submit your application essay, review your work. Ensure your response is clear, concise, and representative of your goals, experiences, strengths, knowledge, and abilities.
The application essay is used in our review process to evaluate the following criteria:
- Ability to organize thoughts related to the prompt.
- Ability to express yourself clearly in writing (Note: Our review of the application will not grade or score spelling, punctuation, or grammar. However, you should take care in preparing your essay and check for mistakes.)
- Ability to write professionally and concisely.
We have developed an Application Essay Guide to help you construct an essay that best communicates your strengths as an applicant to our admissions committee.
If you need assistance or support with your application essay, you may visit Edmonds College's Writing Center at the Learning Support Center or use eTutoring for online writing assistance. Non-Edmonds College students may email Jeremiah Roland at jeremiah.roland@edmonds.edu for access to eTutoring.
