Undergraduate Research

What is Undergraduate Research?

An undergraduate research experience (URE) is  a mentored academic or creative inquiry that is open to all Edmonds students.   It's a pedagogical approach to learning and teaching that emphasizes process.  Students can participate in UREs to contribute to knowledge in their field.

Undergraduate research experiences at Edmonds College include course-based research (CURE) in your major, specific research courses, research collaborations, and presenting at research symposia. If you are interested in medicine or research in general, gaining research experience or building your research toolbox.

Undergraduate research can help students develop transferable skills like: critical thinking, problem solving, communication, collaboration, and independence.

Research experience can also help students stand out in job interviews and graduate school applications. Students can include research experience on their resumes to highlight their technical and soft skills.

In 2024 Edmonds College received a NSF Innovation in Two Year College (ITYC) grant to focus on Increasing Persistence in STEM through External Validation in Community College Undergraduate Research Experiences. In addition, Edmonds college was invited to become part of the NSF Community College Undergraduate Research Initiative (CCURI) funded by the National Science Foundation. Participating in CCURI sets us apart from other community colleges and provides our students with university-level experiences in our mentoring community environment. Our student researchers are supported by faculty research mentors.

Check out our Undergraduate Research Calendar for internships, conferences, and other undergraduate research opportunities.
