Triton Baseball

The Tritons have won 22 region titles (most recent in 2018) and eight NWAC championships, the most recent in 2014. Sixty-nine players have been drafted out of Edmonds College, including Don Long in 1981, who is now the hitting coach for the Cincinnati Reds, and Ty Taubenheim, who pitched for the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates. Right-handed pitcher Alec Kisena was drafted in the 16th round by the Detroit Tigers in 2015, and infielder Zach Needham was taken in the 40th round by the Seattle Mariners in June 2017.


Baseball starts Super Regionals Friday

Triton baseball will head to Puyallup, Wash. for the West Region-hosted NWAC Super Regional. Their first game is a loser-out contest at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 20 vs. Columbia Basin College. The Tritons are the No. 3 seed from the North Region; the CBC Hawks are No. 4 seed from the East Region. If Edmonds beats CBC, they will advance to face Pierce College in a three-game series. The winner advances to the eight-team NWAC Championship Tournament next week in Longview, Wash. You can follow live stats of their game against CBC here, and can watch the livestream here.

Edmonds has qualified for the postseason for the eighth consecutive year.


Uemoto, Lewis claim NWAC POTW awards

Triton baseball hurlers Tatsuya Uemoto and Kaden Lewis have been named as the NWAC Pitchers of the Week for the past two weeks of play. For Lewis, it is the second time this season he has claimed the award. 

Uemoto spun a complete game gem, shutting out Chemeketa on March 11. The freshman righty scattered 5 hits and fanned 5 Storm batters. On the year Uemoto is 4-0 with 30 strikeouts, and a 1.02 ERA. He is tied for the most wins in the NWAC, 12th in K's and 5th overall in ERA.

On March 18 Lewis blanked Big Bend with a 10-punchout performance. The lefthander allowed just two hits to notch his second complete game shuout of the season. Lewis also has 4 wins which is tied with Uemoto for the most wins in the NWAC. His 43 strikeouts are 3rd best in the NWAC, and his 1.09 ERA is 6th best.


MLHS alum Omori discusses career successes

Longtime baseball assistant Ron Omori featured in Columbia Basin Herald article

MOSES LAKE -- Ron Omori, a Moses Lake High School graduate, recently paid a visit to his hometown after leaving Moses Lake to go on to become a pro baseball player, international officiator and coach. “I’ve been lucky,” Omori said. Omori is an assistant coach with the Edmonds College baseball team who took on Big Bend Community College in a tournament this past weekend.

Lewis chosen as NWAC Pitcher of the Week

Kaden LewisLeft-handed pitcher Kaden Lewis (Tumwater HS, Tumwater, Wash.) has been chosen as the NWAC's Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the first week of the 2022 season. In two starts Lewis has hurled 14 scoreless innings and fanned 17 opposing batters.

Lewis, Uemoto toss back-to-back CGs

Edmonds baseball sweeps Centralia 2-0, 1-0

CENTRALIA -- Pitching continues to be the anchor early on for Triton Baseball in 2022. Starters Kaden Lewis and Tatsuya Uemoto tossed back-to-back complete game shutouts to lift baseball to a sweep of Centralia on February 25. 

Cameron Hougham launched a solo home run in the first game, and Luis Vales Crespo was 3-for-4 with a double in the second game. The doubleheader between the two squads that was scheduled for Sunday, February 27 was canceled due to heavy rains.

Edmonds (5-1) hosts Lane CC (4-2) for a four-game set at Triton Field this weekend, March 5-6. First pitch Saturday will be 12 p.m.; Sunday's games will start at 11 a.m. Admission is $5 or you can watch the livestream on our NWAC Sports Network Channel.


Baseball inducts 2003 championship team

LYNNWOOD -- The 2003 NWAC Baseball Championship team was inducted into the Triton Baseball of Fame on Saturday, November 9 in Seaview Gym. 

Donnie Marbut, the former Triton skipper who led the 2002 and 2003 squads to titles, introduced the players and spoke about the team. Marbut was inducted into the HOF as an individual in 2017. Edmonds won 43 games in 2003 and defeated Lower Columbia in extra innings to claim the crown. Double-digit players moved on to four-year universities and three players from the group played professional baseball. At the time, the 43 wins were an NWAC record for wins in a season. It was the seventh year of the event which also features a dinner and silent auction in addition to honoring the alumni and rich tradition of the program. All proceeds from the fundraiser go towards the baseball program.


Sokol earns All-American Gold Glove

Edmonds College baseball sophomore infielder Nic Sokol was named to the 2019 ABCA Rawlings Pacific Association All-American Gold Glove team. The slick fielding versatile infielder played multiple spots for the Tritons and was the only player in the NWAC to make the list. All-American Gold Glove team >>


Baseball out in two at NWAC Tourney

11 Tritons named to North All-Region and Gold Glove Team; three land All-NWAC honors

LONGVIEW -- Edmonds College baseball fell in two straight games at the NWAC Championship Tournament on Thursday and Friday, and were eliminated from the double elimination bracket ending their season in 7th place overall.

On Thursday Spokane jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning and added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth, building a lead Edmonds could not overcome. The Tritons plated two runs in the bottom of the eighth as Yugo Hamakawa scored on a passed ball and Nic Sokol ripped an RBI single into left field, but they left the bases juiced and Spokane ultimately prevailed 5-2. 

In a loser out game, Linn-Benton used a similar formula, scoring one run in the first and three in the third for a 4-0 advantage early, chasing Edmonds' starter Eric Shinjo. The Tritons could only muster three hits and faced their second left-hander of the tournament in the Roadrunners' Austen Carpenter. Linn-Benton won 5-0. Edmonds finished the 2019 campaign with a 34-13 record.

Three Tritons were selected to the All-NWAC and Gold Glove team. Sophomore pitcher Luke Tedrick was named to the All-NWAC 2nd Team, and sophomore infielders Yugo Hamakawa and Nic Sokol picked up All-NWAC gold glove honors. Tedrick, a southpaw, sported one of the lowest ERAs in NWAC Baseball for a majority of the season. Hamakawa is a slick fielding shortstop who had one of the highest fielding percentages in the league, and also had the most attempts of any infielder. Baseball Wins Super Regional, Advances to NWAC Championship Tournament

The Tritons topped Big Bend twice to punch their ticket to Longview

LYNNWOOD -- Edmonds College topped Big Bend twice over the weekend to advance to the NWAC Championship Tournament in Longview, hosted by Lower Columbia College. The Tritons defeated the Vikings on Saturday, 9-2, capped by a grand slam by Yugo Hamakawa, and then downed Big Bend 5-2 on Sunday. Wyatt Stanley went the distance for the complete game win in the first game. Alex Garcia led the way offensively going 3-for-4. In the second matchup Noah Fenz twirled seven innings to lift the Tritons to victory. The Vikings beat Pierce in the other two Super Regional contests at Triton Field on Thursday and Friday.

It is the seventh consecutive year Edmonds baseball has made the postseason. The Tritons took home 3rd place at last year's tournament. Edmonds will open the bracket at 9:35 a.m. on Thursday, May 23 against the East Region champion, Community Colleges of Spokane.


Former Triton Garza Taken by Diamondbacks

Edmonds College baseball alumni David Garza was taken in the 2018 MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 38th round. The 2015 NWAC North Region MVP has starred for Tennessee Tech University the past three seasons, earning First Team OVC honors as a junior, and Second Team OVC honors his senior year. Garza was named to the Brooks Wallace Award Watch List for the second straight year in 2018, and finished as a semifinalist this spring. He was a Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week, and at one point had a 50-game reached base streak. Garza finished his career as the program leader for shortstops with 16 home runs and 69 RBI.


Ex-Triton Kisena signs with Cardinals

Former Triton pitcher Alec Kisena has been picked up by the St. Louis Cardinals. The big right-hander, who has been playing for the Gateway Grizzlies of the Frontier League the past two years, led the independent baseball league with 44 strikeouts in 28 innings so far this year. Kisena, who is a local product from Mill Creek, Wash., played for Edmonds in 2015 and was drafted by the Tigers in the 16th round. Baseball Takes Third Place at NWAC Tournament

The Edmonds College baseball team saw its season come to an end Sunday night in Longview as the host Lower Columbia College Red Devils turned the Tritons away, 3-1. Edmonds pounded balls all over the yard offensively but most were right at defenders. The Tritons battled, but fell to the eventual champion. The team ends the 2018 campaign with 40 wins, tied for second most in school history, and reclaimed the North Region title. Guthrie Morrison and Will Smith were named to the All-Tournament team. Edmonds stays alive at NWAC Tournament

LONGVIEW -- Facing elimination, Edmonds College Baseball used a recipe that led them to success all year -- solid pitching and timely hitting. The Tritons topped regional rival Everett 4-2 on Saturday, and stay alive at the NWAC Baseball Championship Tournament.


Japanese shortstop leading Edmonds College Baseball

Freshman infielder Yugo Hamakawa was featured in a recent Everett Herald story as Edmonds College baseball prepares for the 2018 NWAC Championship Tournament. Hamakawa, the team's starting shortstop, has anchored the middle of the lineup for the team as a freshman, and was recently selected to the NWAC North 2nd Team. Baseball Remains No. 1 in latest NWAC Poll

The third round of spring NWAC coaches polls were released on April 25 and Triton baseball and softball held on to their respective spots. Edmonds College baseball remains the top-ranked team for the third consecutive poll dating back to March 28.


Kelly Tabbed as Assistant Athletic Director

LYNNWOOD -- Scott Kelly was hired as Edmonds College Assistant Athletic Director on August 10, 2017. In addition to supporting the seven athletic programs, Kelly will be responsible for all home game management, upkeep of and management of all athletic facilities, facility rentals, hiring and training student and part-time hourly employees, scheduling, and will serve as the Seaview Gym emergency preparedness building coordinator among other duties.


Needham Selected by Mariners in 2017 MLB Draft

Edmonds College baseball infielder Zach Needham was selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball first-year player draft on Wednesday, June 14. The sophomore was taken in the 40th round and becomes the 69th Triton baseball player drafted from the college. He was the Baden Sports NWAC Player of the Year.
