Follow the Edmonds College application process.

All international students must take an English test, unless you have direct placement into an English class based on TOEFL, IELTS, or other accepted English proficiency tests. Most majors also require math, and we strongly encourage all new students to take a math test after being placed in college-level English. Testing is the first step and should be done as soon as possible. Please do not wait to take your test, it may delay your process of enrolling in classes. Submit any eligible English Test scores to our admission team at oip_admissions@edmonds.edu 

Examity is an English Placement test taken online prior to your admission to Edmonds College. This is a free test offered to you! We are partnering with our Testing and Assessment Services to offer virtual English and Math testing for accepted international students.

Steps to Take Examity:

1. Submit an online application first. You will be given a ctcLink ID number which you will need to take the test.
2. Go to the Virtual Testing page to read about the ”Examity System Requirements”
   Once you are ready, send an email (see example below) to request a test. Students (not parents/agents) must email to testingcenter@edmonds.edu directly.
3. You will receive a test voucher and can schedule your test date immediately. The voucher will have an expiration date. If you can’t take the test before your voucher expires, please email testingcenter@edmonds.edu to cancel your test voucher.  Once we issue the voucher, if you don't use or cancel it, there will be a $25 fee.  
4. Keep in mind that English test results may take up to 3 business days if you are required to write an essay.
5. When you are done with your test, please email oip_admissions@edmonds.edu

You will receive a welcome email from an advisor with information for your start at Edmonds College. Before we begin our orientation, your next step is to complete these two online forms:

• New Student Orientation Confirmation
• Registration Questionnaire

• Include your full name, student ID number, date of birth, and ask to take a math test.
• Attach a copy of your passport

Most degrees and certificates require at least one college-level math class. Some areas of study, including business and STEM majors, require many college-level math classes. It is important to take your placement test early to plan your classes and degree.

Before you take your test, review our test preparation resources. 

You will be emailed your assigned advisor to help you get registered.

Students taking college classes can visit our advising website or connect via email at oip_advisors@edmonds.edu for more information or to schedule an appointment directly.

Students taking high school classes should book an appointment with a high school advisor. All appointment times are in Pacific Time.

At your advising appointment, you will talk about your academic goals and get help registering for your first quarter of classes at Edmonds. 

For your online appointments, make sure you have a microphone on your computer or headphones so that you can talk with your advisor. You must click on the link provided to enter the meeting room. If you need to reschedule a meeting for any reason, please contact your advisor directly to reschedule.

After you have submitted your documents and met with your advisor, you will be emailed instructions on how to access orientation using our online learning tool Canvas.

Once you follow the instructions in the video to login and reset your password, you will be able to access the mandatory Canvas materials. All online materials are due by the first day of class. This is a self-paced orientation. You can begin as soon as you are given access.

For students who will be on campus attending in person, we invite you to join our on-campus orientation. This is mandatory for all students coming to the U.S.!

I received my acceptance letter and paperwork, but I did not get my visa. When do I receive my visa?

As a new international student, you must apply for an F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate in your home country. As a current F-1 student transferring from another U.S. school, you must apply for a new F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate in your home country if it expires by the time you re-enter the U.S. You can only apply or renew an F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate outside the U.S.

I am attending another school in the U.S. Can I use the same visa to come to Edmonds College? Do I need to have a new I-20?

If you are accepted and do not travel outside the United States before attending Edmonds College, you do not need a new F-1 visa. After you register at Edmonds College, the Office of International Programs will give you an Edmonds College I-20.

If you are accepted and travel outside the U.S. before attending Edmonds College and are absent from the U.S. less than five months, you do not need a new F-1 visa if it is still valid by the time you re-enter the United States.

If you are absent from the U.S. for more than five months before attending Edmonds College and your visa will expire by the time you re-enter the U.S., you must apply for a new F-1 visa with an Edmonds College I-20 at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate nearest to your home. You can only apply or renew an F-1 visa at a U.S. Embassy/Consulate outside the U.S.

All international travelers coming into the U.S. must be fully vaccinated and provide proof of vaccination prior to boarding their plane to the U.S. If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you will not be allowed to board a flight to the United States, unless you meet the criteria for an exception.

You will meet often with three kinds of advisors: academic advisors, faculty advisors, and international student advisors.

• Academic advisors help you select the college or high school classes to meet your graduation requirements.
• Faculty advisors are your class instructors. They can be academic advisors, too. Normally, you will have to contact the instructors directly to schedule an appointment.
• International student advisors answer your questions about visas, passports, immigration issues, cultural adjustments, personal concerns, first quarter class registration, housing, and many other situations. You may schedule an appointment with an advisor here.

When new international students arrive, you will attend the new student orientation and take a placement test so that we can help you register for the appropriate classes.

Current college and high school students will register for classes on their own, online, or in person at Enrollment Services.

The major listed on your I-20 comes from a list of program names and codes provided by the U.S. government for use in the SEVIS system. Often, the major name on the I-20 does not match the major you requested in your application. This is normal, and the U.S. consulates are aware that program names on the I-20 may not reflect a student’s planned major or subject of study. We do not expect this to cause any issues with your visa application.

*Note that most I-20 majors for Edmonds College are listed as Liberal Arts and Sciences, which includes pre-nursing, social sciences, humanities, sciences, engineering, art, general studies, undecided majors, and other majors. Some business or technical degree programs may reflect a more specific name and code, also from the SEVIS list. The major name on your I-20 does not lock you into any particular path of study or transfer plan. The Edmonds College associate-level transfer degrees prepare students for transfer to bachelor's programs in most majors.

We encourage you to live in a residence hall or homestay, where you can spend more time with U.S. students and/or families and learn more about U.S. culture, our college, and the English language. Visit  our Housing page or email housing@edmonds.edu to learn more.

When you fill out your application, you will answer questions regarding your preferences, as well as specific information that will help us match you with one of our host families. Application requests will be honored whenever possible, depending on availability.

If there are problems or concerns that come up, we encourage students to talk to their families, and the Housing Office will help. If problems cannot be resolved, then we will try matching you with another host family.

No. Your host family will help you with the local bus system. All students are matched with families that are close to bus stops, under 45 minutes to school by bus, and most families are 20-30 minutes from school by bus.

When you fill out the Housing Application, you can mark if you would like to be picked up at the airport on arrival dates. Each quarter we have specific arrival and move in dates. The driver will meet you at the baggage claim area, with a sign that reads Edmonds College.

You do not. All rooms are setup apartment style: 2 or 4 individual bedrooms; 2 bathrooms; and one kitchen and living room. When you fill out your application, you will answer questions regarding your preferences, as well as specific information that will help us match you with other residents. Roommate requests will be honored whenever possible. However, these requests must be mutual. If a particular student is preferred as a roommate, then both residents should note their preferred roommates on the questionnaire.

Students studying in the U.S. must take a minimum of 12 credits, and the average is 15 credits per quarter. Students studying all online from outside the U.S. may study part time (less than 12 credits) or full time (12 credits or more). Note: To finish a degree on time, students should take 15 credits per quarter.  

• Each new international student with an F1/F2 visa studying 12 or more High school or College credits on campus or online will receive a $500 tuition reduction for a maximum of 3 quarters from Fall 2023 until Spring 2025.
