John Wies


John WiesJohn began working at Edmonds College in the International Division and eventually served as an instructor in the International Studies department for seven years. He has been a member of the Communications department since 2023. John holds a BA degree from the University of Connecticut, where he studied Sociology and Anthropology and completed a Master's Degree in Linguistics though Charles Darwin University, located in northern Australia.

Aligning with his focus on delivering and developing the course he teaches at Edmonds College (COMM101, Intercultural Communication), John has prioritized working with culturally diverse populations and deepening his understanding of different cultural perspectives; how these perspectives influence communication processes. In addition to having lived in different part of the U.S. (Rhode Island, Georgia and Colorado), John lived and worked in S. Korea for two years and in Japan for three years. He’s also resided in Mexico and traveled extensively in places such as Indonesia, Thailand, Turkey, Canada, the Caribbean, and Costa Rica.

As a guitarist, songwriter, and live music performer, John spends a fair amount of time on music-related activities when not focused on his work for Edmonds College. John also enjoys skiing, tennis, hiking, photography and language learning.
