Dr. Leslie L. Rossman
Dr. Leslie L. Rossman is the Chair and Full-Time Faculty in the Communication Studies
Department at Edmonds College. They hold a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Communication Ethics
from the University of Denver, an M.A. in Political Studies from the University of
Illinois, Springfield, and a B.A. in Political Science from Southern Illinois University.
Their academic and research interests focus on rhetoric and political economy, rhetorical
mediations of labor and globalization, and the precarity of academic labor. Additionally,
Dr. Rossman explores topics in media studies, including intersectional feminism in
women’s professional soccer, representations in sapphic novels, and broader discussions
of gender and sexuality in media.
At Edmonds College, Dr. Rossman teaches a range of courses, including Introduction to Communication, Introduction to Media Studies, Interpersonal Communication, and Public Speaking. Their teaching philosophy emphasizes creating inclusive, student-centered environments where learners find their voices and connect theory to lived experiences. Dr. Rossman’s courses integrate dynamic pedagogical methods—such as podcasting, group discussions, application exercises, and media literacy—to accommodate diverse learning styles and foster critical thinking. They are particularly passionate about helping students analyze media through various theoretical lenses, encouraging discussions on power, representation, and identity in communication. Additionally, Dr. Rossman is committed to establishing a strong foundation in both workplace communication and transferable skills, ensuring students are prepared for diverse professional and personal interactions beyond the classroom.
Beyond academia, Dr. Rossman is an avid traveler and enjoys spending time with friends and family in Chicago, where they frequently attend sporting events, including Red Stars, Sky, and Cubs games. They are a devoted supporter of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team and have a deep appreciation for the intersections of sports, media, and culture. A fan of The Great British Baking Show, they appreciate the combination of creativity, competition, and camaraderie the show embodies.
Since moving to the Pacific Northwest, Dr. Rossman has embraced Seattle’s vibrant sports culture, regularly attending Reign FC, Storm, and Kraken games. They also enjoy exploring the city’s renowned coffee scene. Whether cheering from the stands or analyzing the rhetoric of sports and media, Dr. Rossman is dedicated to both their professional and personal interests in communication, culture, and community.
