The Center at a Glance
Veterans Resource Center History
Beginning in 2010, the Edmonds College Student Veterans Association unveiled the Boots to Books Veterans Monument in the courtyard on the Edmonds College campus. Prior to the unveiling, services for veterans and the military at Edmonds College had not changed much since the college opened in 1967. With funding provided by a variety of donors and community sponsors, the establishment of the Boots to Books monument served as the starting point for the development of many other veterans services and initiatives involving the Edmonds College community. The monument continues to honor student veterans who have put aside their military boots to pursue an education and is a focal point in annual Memorial Day and Veterans Day ceremonies at the college.
In 2013, Edmonds College began the Boots to Books and Beyond Campaign and raised more than 1 million dollars to help expand services and resources for veterans in the local community. Once again, numerous donors and sponsors from the local area came together in an effort coordinated by the Edmonds College Foundation to recognize and thank the veteran and military community. This remarkable endeavor resulted in enhanced services and resources for veterans, and the expansion of the on campus Veterans Resource Center.
In 2014, less than one year after the campaign began, the newly expanded Veterans Resource Center (VRC) opened at it's current location in Lynnwood Hall and began serving veterans, active military, and family members. Since then, the VRC has developed additional services, resources, and connections within the community to provide robust and full-service assistance.
In 2016, the Edmonds College Foundation formally recognized the critical role played by community sponsors and donors during the Boots to Books Campaign with the unveiling of the Boots to Books and Beyond Veterans Donor Wall. The wall is located steps from the VRC in Lynnwood Hall and is among the first images veterans see when heading to the VRC. The wall serves as a thank you to donors and sponsors, but also as an enduring tribute to the remarkable members of the US military, past and present. The Edmonds College Veterans Resource Center remains committed to serve those who have served for us, endeavoring each day to bear True Faith and Allegiance to Our Veterans and Their Families.
