INFORMATION FOR FACULTY

The Learning Support Center (LSC) provides free one-on-one academic support for students currently enrolled at Edmonds College. Research shows that students who use college services have a higher rate of course and program completion. Edmonds College’s faculty play a key role in helping the LSC assist over 4,000 students each year. Below you will find several ways to inform your students about our services as well as a way to refer students to us so we may invite them to apply to be tutors.

Posting Information for Your Students

We have written brief introductions to the services offered by the Learning Support Center that any faculty member may access and use in their syllabi or post online in their Canvas course shells. If you have any questions about these materials, please send an email to Jeremiah Roland.

Scheduling a Classroom Visit

Please consider having someone from the Learning Support Center visit your class and give students a brief presentation about the free, drop-in tutoring services that we offer in the Writing and Tutorial Centers - we are available for both in-person visits AND Zoom/Google Meet virtual visits. 

Visits typically take around 10-15 minutes, though you may request something shorter or slightly longer. Someone from the Learning Support Center staff will talk to your students about all of the tutoring options available to them at the LSC and incorporate time to answer any questions your students may have. If there’s something in particular you’d like our representative to highlight or emphasize, let us know when you request your visit!

We send a campus email each quarter inviting faculty from across the curriculum to request classroom presentations, but you may also request classroom visits at any time by filling out this form. If you have any questions about our classroom presentations, please email Jeremiah Roland.

Bringing Your Class for a Tour

We invite faculty to bring their classes to the Learning Support Center in Mukilteo Hall #113 for a short tour. Instructors don't need to schedule a tour during the first week of the quarter, when the Center is less full; they can just drop by with their class at their convenience to walk through the Center. Referring Students to Become Tutors

At the Learning Support Center, we are always looking for strong students with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who can work as tutors in a variety of subjects, including writing, math, biology, chemistry, accounting, BSTEC, computer science, philosophy, allied health, physics, and more. If you've had a student in your class who you feel would be a good candidate to work as a tutor on campus, please take the time to let us know. We use referrals as one way to recruit new tutors all year long, and we highly value faculty recommendations.
