Edmonds College can provide you access to campus technology resources, but we reserve the right to determine what constitutes the appropriate use of academic technology resources, academic network access, and/or any academic computing services. We will review this policy, at minimum, on an annual basis.
The following instructions need to be followed precisely, or your account will be locked. To correct this, a Lab Assistant must go to the office with your username and have the account unlocked. If the lab administrators are busy, this might take a while.
The next screen you will see is our Policy Acceptance screen with a pink background. It may only appear after the desktop has appeared; please be patient. You agree to abide by the Edmonds College Computer Lab Policies by reading and accepting this screen.
Read the text on the screen and then click on next. Read the following screen and click agree.
You are not accepting the policy if you hit the Escape key or the enter key.
Open Lab Time: Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If you leave a computer unattended for more than 10 minutes, you will be logged out so that other students may use the computer. Unattended belongings will be placed in the office.
Reserved Class Time: Reserved time for classes is indicated on the schedules posted outside each lab. Reserved time is closed to general use. Please exit the computer and leave the room 10 minutes before the next class is scheduled to begin.
Edmonds College's policy is to respect copyright and license agreements as specified by federal and state laws. If you use computers at Edmonds College, you are responsible for using the resources ethically and legally. As a user, you agree to abide by the following conditions:
Federal and state laws and college policies forbid certain behaviors that create a hostile learning environment for students or a hostile work environment for employees. An example of such forbidden behavior is accessing, creating, storing, or printing graphic or degrading written or electronic documents of a sexual nature, sexually-oriented photos, cartoons, etc., which are not directly related to the instruction that the student is intended to receive. If you violate this prohibition, you may be subject to disciplinary action, including loss of access to the college's computers and possible termination from the college's instructional program. Please be aware that college staff monitors what is accessed and stored on college equipment in the academic computer labs.
Your documents should only be stored in student sub-directories or on portable media such as a flash drive. We clean out the local hard drives randomly. We will delete all files not installed by the required software or the operating system. While your data stored on the Edmonds College network is backed up, we recommend keeping a copy of any critical information on portable media. In the event of a catastrophe that results in the damage of servers and backups on campus, your most recent data will be from the end of the previous quarter.
Your instructor may store special class files on the network. Write down the file location information provided by your instructor. Lab Assistants will not have this information. If you need help retrieving the files, please contact a Lab Assistant.
